About the Photographer
Robert "Bob" Glaccum has been actively involved with photographic methods since
1962.
Robert Glaccum
Working as a student high school photographer, Bob Glaccum acquired many pictures of sports and class events
and functions, using the 4x5-inch Speed Graphic camera. Many of these photos were manually developed and printed
in the school's science lab after hours.
Working toward a college science degree in South Florida, Bob also had many opportunities to photograph underwater
corals and fishes in the Florida Keys during the late 1960's as well as sailing boats on Miami's Biscayne Bay.
Serving in the US Navy, his training was expanded to ship/aircraft subjects and aerial photography methods
and interpretations, particularly of foreign ships and submarines.
Graduate work in the field of marine geology and geophysics during the 1970's exposed him to additional underwater
and marine techniques and more advanced equipment, often documenting research events and data acquisition projects
in the field, from both aerial and marine platforms and copystand work.
Working in the geologic/geophysical and environmental fields, Bob has documented with his cameras and geophysical
equipment many unique projects related to sinkholes, subsidence and environmental waste sites. Many interesting
pictures were taken on side trips during his travels across the country on such projects in the 1970-1990's.
Other skiing, hiking and canoe trips in Florida, New York, Michigan, and Montana offered photo opportunities
while exploring nature with his two children Matthew and Katie.
Bob started using the 35mm format with a Minolta SRT101camera with 50mm, 28mm and 200mm lenses. Many of his
earlier close-ups were taken with a Schneider enlarging lens mounted on an inexpensive bellows.
He currently uses the Minolta MD cameras, Minolta AF cameras, Canon FD cameras, and a manual focus Nikon
camera. He uses minolta, canon, nikon, vivitar series 1, tamron SP and Sigma APO lenses, from 17mm to 400mm.
Medium format equipment includes the 6x6 Bronica system.
